The Hutt Valley Model Engineering Society Inc

Marine Parade, Petone, Wellington, New Zealand

The Hutt Valley Model Engineering Society comprises around forty members with a wide range of interests, from clocks to precision tools to miniature steam locomotives, traction engines and marine plant.

Members keep in touch through our monthly newsletter, "Blast Pipe". This is a widely recognised model engineering club newsletter and is regularly mentioned in Model Engineer magazine. There is always a good variety of articles though more are always needed! The Maidstone (Upper Hutt) club shares space in Blast Pipe on a co-operative basis.

To get here, follow the Petone Esplanade until you see the Mobil station on the right. Take the next right (Kirkcaldy St) and the next right (Marine Parade).  From Eastern Hutt, take the Wellington exit from the Hutt Park roundabout (rotary) and take the first left once you've crossed the Hutt River bridge. You can also carry on and turn left immediately past Mobil.

Meetings are at 7:30pm on the first Wednesday of every month (except January) at our Marine Parade club rooms. We usually have guest speakers on interesting topics and a "show and tell" table. Special visits to factories or other engineering-related sites, club auctions and the annual barbecue round out our monthly activities. Visitors are welcome at any time.

Track running takes place every fine Sunday from late January through to Christmas, starting at 1pm until 4pm-ish (maybe earlier if there are very few passengers). Members are rostered for track duty two or three times a year, though you can turn up at any time to help and have fun. Driver training is encouraged and members have the opportunity to become certified to drive both diesel and steam locomotives belonging to the club. Visiting modellers are asked to make themselves known to the members on duty - you're guaranteed a chat and maybe a cup of tea!

Safety is paramount in the manner that we operate. This is the latest version which was released by the committee in October 2022  Safety and Operation Document (Adobe PDF format) Feedback from members has been encouraged so there will be further versions in the future.
